Olive oil at Terra Madre in Turin

We visited the Slow Food Terra Madre Salone del Gusto in Turin for two days this September, it is held every second year at the end of September and large numbers of members and the public visit it over the four days it is open.

The event was held in the Lingotto exhibition centre in Turin and it was expected that over one million visitors would attend over the four days that it was being held.

Olivaverde was there as part of our membership of Slow food in the UK, as we also do work on a voluntary basis for Slow Food Anglia promoting small artisan food producers and helping to organise food events across the east of England.

While in Turin we were able to visit many olive oil producers who had stands in the main exhibition halls, most were from the Mediterranean region but also several producers from other parts of the globe including the USA, Australia and south America.

Many of the producers in Turin produce olive oil from rare varieties of olives which are only found in their geographical regions, these oils are only produced in very small amounts but are fantastic oils to try and savour.

We have now been in contact with several of the producers and they will be arranging for their olive oils to be sent to us so we can try them out at our events in the UK and Malta in the early spring, oils that prove popular will then be added to our comprehensive oil sales list.
